An update on a few on the areas we have covered this week-
In Maths, we focused on understanding place value up to 50, using tens and ones to help visualise and organise numbers.
In Science, we embarked on an exciting bug hunt, exploring the natural world around us to identify and learn about different insects and their habitats. We also had the opportunity to toast marshmallows in the Forest School area, learning about fire safety while enjoying the experience of cooking outdoors.
In Geography, we delved into the fascinating culture of the Maasai tribe, locating their homeland in East Africa and studying their traditions, lifestyle, and the unique aspects of their society. This helped us understand global diversity and the rich cultural heritage of different communities.
In English, we worked on innovating the story of Zahra, reimagining different parts of the narrative to make it our own.

This term, we have been exploring the fascinating world of rocks and soils. We became rock and soil detectives, examining samples to discover their properties. We tested if rocks were hard or soft, if they floated or sank, and even tried to scratch them with a fingernail! For soils, we checked how much water they held and felt their texture. We now knw that rocks and soils play a crucial role in our environment plus, fossils found in sedimentary rocks teach us about life from millions of years ago!
Some of our favourite activities included testing rocks and making fossils.
On Thursday 27th, we are going on a field trip to further investigate rocks and also the properties the sand to link with our Geography unit of work on deserts.
Next week:
Wednesday is swimming in the morning and Mother’s Day service at St Saviour’s at 2:30pm
Thursday: Science and Geography field trip
Friday: Concert at St Neot pm

On Monday, we celebrated St Patrick’s Day. We talked about who St Patrick was and where it is celebrated. We also talked about what people do, such as eat Irish food, Irish dancing and Irish parades. We then did lots of St Patrick’s Day activities.
In English this week, Year 1 have finished their Jack and the Beanstalk stories. We were so proud of them that we got the English Lead, Mrs Marshall, to come and read our stories. Year 1 have worked so hard to include all the features of traditional tales and have produced some fantastic work. Well done Year 1.
Foundation have also been drawing a picture from the story and then writing key words/captions to match. We have really enjoyed our Jack and the Beanstalk learning that we’ve even made our own Beanstalk in the classroom!
Just some updates:
Comic Relief on Friday. Children can come dressed in their own clothes for a donation of £1.
Easter Crafternoon on Friday 28th March. An email has been sent with information about this.
Thank you!

This half term we have been working with Wheal Martyn as part of an Arts project. After half term we visited the museum to get inspiration from the history of Cornwall. We were then visited in school to continue the work. The work is leading to the creation of a podcast. The children have recorded sounds, words, poems and thoughts to be included. They also made edible poems and notebooks to inspire their creativity. It has been a fantastic project to be part of.
Also this half term, we have been looking at sustainability in geography, observational drawings in art and pneumatics in DT.
We have finally finished our work on fractions, and the children have made some incredible progress! In writing they have written biographies about inspiring people from around the world.

We’ve had an action-packed and exciting week in Year 3 and 4, full of discoveries, creativity, and teamwork! Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to:
English – A Mysterious Discovery!
A thrilling discovery on the school field has sparked curiosity and debate in our classroom! The children have been formulating arguments for and against various possibilities, using the language of debate in their writing. They have also been practising their amazing oracy skills, confidently discussing their viewpoints in preparation for their balanced argument writing.
Maths – Measuring Up and Mastering Numbers
Year 3 have embarked on their new topic of length and perimeter, exploring how to measure and calculate distances and boundaries. Meanwhile, Year 4 have been delving into fractions and decimals, developing their understanding of how numbers can be represented in different ways.
History – Marching Like Romans
The children had a fantastic time drilling like Roman soldiers! They researched what made the Roman army so powerful and put their knowledge into practice with some impressive marching and formation exercises.
Science – Investigating Forces
Our new science topic, Forces and Magnetism, began with an exciting investigation into how different forces affect moving objects. The children loved experimenting and observing how things move in different ways.
RE – A Special Visit to St Stephen’s Church
On Thursday, we had a wonderful visit to St Stephen’s Church, where we learned all about the creation story. The children behaved beautifully and participated enthusiastically in discussions and activities.
Dance – A Creative Collaboration
Many children had the amazing opportunity to take part in a dance workshop on Monday, where they worked with children from other schools to explore creative dance and build friendships. It was a truly inspiring experience!
PE – Fielding Skills in Cricket
In PE, we focused on fielding techniques in cricket, practising catching, throwing, and teamwork to improve our game.
PSHE – Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds
Our PSHE lessons this week centred around the importance of exercise. The children explored what happens to their bodies and minds when they exercise and why staying active is vital for their well-being.
It has been a fantastic week of learning, and we can’t wait to see what next week brings!
Best wishes,
The Year 3 & 4 Team

What a fantastic few weeks we have had in Canute. The children have been working so hard on their learning.
World Book Day was a fantastic day as usual, with the children fully embracing the day. We had a whole host of costumes on show and we enjoyed a day of fun. As a part of the day Canute opened their class library! The children decorated some beautiful bags to use to transport their books to and from school, made covers for their own reading logs and chose a first library book to take home. The children can exchange their library books on any day of the week, we have a lovely selection and we are awaiting some more. We finished our day with some buddy reading with Tregeagle who also taught us a poem and made us beautiful bookmarks. We have also been lucky enough to have a visit from the Library Service who shared the wonderful story of 'Owl Babies' with us.
In English we have been looking at the structure of a non-chronological report and the children have begun to plan their own reports on spring animals.
There has been a lot of measuring in maths over the past weeks in Reception and Year 2 and the children have been comparing and measuring length using different units of measure including cubes, cm and m. In Year 1 the children have been exploring the place value of numbers 20-50.
In our RE work we have been learning about why Easter is special to Christian people, exploring the stories behind the events of Holy week and sharing these in different forms including role play and art activities.
In PSHE the children have been thinking about what it means to be healthy in regards to diet, sleep, exercise and medicine.
We have been so lucky to have Miss Northcott working with us over the past 7 weeks and unfortunately this week will be her last and she will be back to university. We wish her all the luck in the rest of her teaching journey.
Some things coming up...
Thursday 20th March - The Very Hungry Caterpillar day - come to school in bright clothes for a day of caterpillar fun!
Friday 21st March - Red Nose Day
Monday 24th March - Nancarrow Farm trip
Wednesday 26th March - PCSO Cocks visiting for a road safety morning.
Please continue to look on Seesaw for photos and learning that your child is taking part in. If you have any questions then please get in touch.

Hello Everyone!
This week Penhallow have enjoyed a dinosaur themed music lesson, where they were able to use a range of percussion instruments to make different accompaniments to a song.
In Geography, we learnt about the location of the 4 countries of the British Isles and found out some of the key characteristics of these countries.
In our science lesson this week, we learnt about which animals are herbivores, carnivores and omnivores. We looked at the different types of teeth that these animals have, and compared them with our own teeth.
During our RE lesson, we found out about Palm Sunday, made some palm leaves and learnt a song with actions, which Year 1 taught to Reception.
Our English lessons this week, have been focused on Quentin Blake’s story of Mrs Armitage on Wheels. We really enjoyed the story and the characters. So far, we have labelled Mrs Armitage’s bike, and drawn a story map to explain what happened in the story.
We hope you enjoy your weekend!

Our traditional fairy tale this week in pre-school has been The Three Little Pigs.
We have tried to build our own houses using straw, sticks and bricks, with our own wolf (handheld fan) trying to blow them down! There has been lots of huffing and puffing to blow the houses down. The children agreed that the house made of bricks is the strongest and safest house to live in.
The children have also made their own pig or wolf art, cutting and sticking together shapes. There are some very cute looking wolves and scary looking pigs...!
During phonics we used our body to make sound patterns, with stamping, clapping, patting and clicking. We took turns to follow each other's patterns. We also continued this with our musical instruments, listening and repeating patterns we had heard. The addition of the walking piano mat was hugely popular.
Outside the children have enjoyed some of the resources we are gathering for them to continue their understanding of numbers to 10. We want to encourage and inspire the children to look for opportunities during their outside imaginative and creative play to discover numbers, patterns and shapes. This is an area we will continue to develop to enhance their exploration and understanding of numbers.
Next Friday is Red Nose Day, we are asking the children to wear something red if they are able to. This is a fund-raising day where there is a voluntary contribution of £1 to raise money for the charity. We understand that not every child is in on Friday, so if your child wants to wear red on another day and bring £1 in that that would be wonderful too. We will pass all money raised to Mrs Thompson to join with the whole school fund raising pot.
Next week sees us read the story of The Gingerbread Man, which means we will obviously be enjoying some baking - always very exciting for the children to show you their creations.
We hope everyone has a lovely weekend and enjoys the spring sunshine.
The Pre-School Team.

Exciting news in Landaviddy class - our beans are sprouting! This week, we have continued observing our 'beans in a bag'. We have seen the first signs of our plants germinating and growing roots. We can't wait to see how they continue to change.
In Art, we have explored mixing primary colours to make secondary colours, using watercolour paints. This was lots of fun!
Year 3 have finishing their length and perimeter unit this week and have already started work on Fractions. Year 2 have continued to explore multiplication and division, by exploring the link between these operations too.
In English, we have been writing up our own versions of Jack and the Beanstalk. We have had some fantastic ideas and innovations taking place with our characters climbing up sunflowers, strawberry stalks and even palm trees! We will finish off our writing next week and begin to finalise our neat copies.
Congratulations to Amber, Alfie and Charlie-Ray for being chosen as Landaviddy's People of the Week. And a big well done to Lowen J and Rosie for achieving their 99 club badges this week.
We hope you have a peaceful weekend and look forward to seeing you all again on Monday!

We have had a very creative week in Chaipel Class.
Sean Hewitt has begun a series of art lessons linking to our work on the Orwell project. We began this week by looking at foreground and backgrouond, combining photographs with our own sketches.
In DT, we have been looking into a range of sewing techniques. We spent an afternoon practising how to tack, sew running and whip stitch as well as learn the basics of threading and knotting. It was slow and steady but we are already making progress. Over the next few weeks, we will learn how to add appliques, sew buttons and use back stitch to sew an initial.
ENGLISH
Our draft copy of our Tusor diaries have been writtten and next week, we will be editing, improving and creating our best copies. We have worked hard and have combined our knowledge of the life and times of Anne Boleyn with the use of colloquial language and the subjunctive form.
MATHS
Y6 have learnt about percentages and are very confident whilst the Y5s have been identifying equivalent fractions, decimals and percentages.
Our Music lesson had us creating rhythm using a range of instruments and PE focused on progressing our skills at rounders.
CONGRATULATIONS to Dominic for achieving his next 99 Club and to our People of the Week - Lily and Kora - for demonstrating our school values.
That's all from me, so have a lovely weekend and see you all on Monday!

What an amazing science week we've had in Tregantle! Our focus has been of floating and sinking and looking at how we can help to keep our planet clean. The children have been amazing at experimenting and talking about their ideas. We also had some great designs for our competition to design something to help clear the plastic from the ocean. We even had a prize winner which was fantastic! We certainly have some budding scientists in Tregantle class!

The children were eager to take up books to share at St Anne's this week.
We took a selection of favourite traditional tales, and some newer books that we hadn't read before.
The Grannies loved sharing the stories with the children and they loved it, too.

TALLAND'S BLOG 14.3.25
We hope you have all had a lovely week. It's been all go here! Starting with bongos for music! It was lots of fun and the children were fantastic at arranging how soft or hard to tap their instrument. We then had an art extraordinaire in to help us with the Orwell Project. The art work that came out of the afternoon was simply brilliant. Talland worked so hard and were so respectful!
Maths
Year 4 have been adding fractions and finding equivalent fractions with the help of a fraction wall.
Year 5 have been turning fractions into decimals and vice versa. They have also been looking at tenths, hundredths and thousandths.
Writing
Talland have created some fabulous writing this week through the use of similes, personification and different sentence starters. They are now planning their diary entry from a soldiers point of view during the battles of 1066. I'm looking forward to them writing it up independently next week.
RE
We've stepped into the the holy week and are discovering what the three big days are during the holy week running up to Easter Sunday. We've spoken about why we call the day of Jesus' crucifixion 'Good Friday' and why Christians believe Jesus is our salvation.
Computing
Talland took a trip to Mars to learn about the Mars Rover, Curiosity. We learnt about its journey to Mars and what it does on Mars. Jamie and Joey were even able to guess the cost of this project (£2,000,000,000).
CONGRATULATIONS to Grace for earning her next badge in 99 club and WELL DONE to Heidi for being noticed for her determination and excellent behaviour in school.
That's all from Talland this week. We hope you have an amazing weekend!
Signing off, Mr. Langley, Mr. Bishop and Miss. Colton.

Another busy week at Polperro School has flown past. In Monday’s music lessons, the children tried their hand at African drumming, exploring rhythm, teamwork, and cultural diversity through the rich traditions of African music. Later in the week, local artist Sean Hewitt worked with years 4-6 to produce amazing pieces of artwork depicting George Orwell and Polperro as part of the Polperro Orwell Project.
Emergency Lockdown Procedure
We held an emergency lockdown procedure drill today and the children responded very well. Lockdown procedures are important and would be used in response to an internal or external incident which could be a threat to the safety of staff and children in the school such as: 1. A reported incident, disturbance in the local community 2. An intruder on the site 3. A warning being received regarding a local risk of air pollution (smoke plume, gas cloud etc.) 4. A major fire in the vicinity of the school 5. The close proximity of a dangerous dog. We practise this drill yearly and fire drills termly.
FOPS Easter Discos
Easter Discos for the children on Thursday, 3rd April. we will be holding Easter school discos on Thursday 3rd April. Tickets are on sale in the office and cost £3. The disco for Reception, Year 1 and year 2 will be from 3:15-4:15pm. Pupils should bring a change of clothes and will be able to change after school. KS2 (years 3-6) children should go home at the usual time of 3:15pm and then return to school for their disco which will be from 4:30-6:00pm. Please find attached a poster for this event.
Comic Relief
Red Nose Day is next Friday, 21st March. The School Council would like the children to come to school in MUFTI (bright colours/funky clothes!) with a minimum donation of £1 for this MUFTI day. We will be selling Red noses for £2 from Monday.
Have a good weekend.

What a brilliant week it has been at Darite! It has been so full of activities and successes that this is going to be a longer newsletter!
We started the week with a wonderful Teddy Bear's Picnic. The children had a great time with their games and activities and we raised £130 for the school. Thank-you to the PTFA for organising and running the event.
It was also science week this week and the school has been buzzing with activities. On Thursday, we welcomed the planetarium into school. All of the children had a workshop inside the dome, learning all about the solar system and the night sky. They have been telling me all about it today and it was a great experience, really tying it into their learning. Thank-you to SpaceLab for coming into school.
Class 2 have been designing parachutes in their science lesson. They have looked at designing a parachute that would be the best to protect eggs. We are going to be testing this out towards Easter!
Finally, a huge congratulations to the First Lego League team who, this Thursday, qualified for the national finals of the competition in Harrogate for the second year in a row! They took home the "Robot Performance" award for the FOURTH year in a row, scoring more points than any of the teams on both days of the competition! They had a brilliant presentation too and despite fierce competition, qualified for the national finals in Harrogate for the second year running! Not bad for a small school! We are so proud of them all.

We have continued exploring farms this week and have been talking about what happens on the farm, foods that we can grow and what the role of a farmer is.
The children have created pictures in paint to represent farmers fields and have been printing with cauliflower and broccoli to show the vegetables been grown. They have made corn on the cob using their handprints and have made life cycles of a chicken.
They have explored the farm themed tuft tray with intetest.
At story time we have enjoyed the story of "Oliver's vegetables", the children have really enjoyed this story and they have had the opportunity to talk about vegetables that they have tried and discussed which ones they like and dislike.
In phonics the children have been joining in actions to familiar and new songs, breaking words down into their different beats and identifying animals from their sounds.
In maths the children have been recognising numbers and ordering them. They have been finding different objects to represent the numbers 1-3 and beyond.
Have a great weekend
